WPI ACM GNU/Linux Mirrors

If you use Arch Linux or Debian, you can configure your package manager to use one of ACM's servers to retrieve packages. This will make updates and installations run much more quickly. Since the ACM server is on WPI's LAN, any packages you download from the ACM mirrors do not count toward the WPI bandwidth limit.

While we do also have an openSUSE mirror, you cannot prefer it locally. See below for more details.

The ACM supports the following distros:

Other organizations on campus also provide mirrors for

Arch Linux

Add this to the top of your /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist file:

Server = http://mirrors.acm.wpi.edu/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch

Because our mirror is an official Tier 2 mirror, the line may already exist in your mirror list. If that's the case, simply uncomment the line and move it to the top.

Debian

The Debian mirror is only a partial mirror (i386 and amd64 architectures only). For other architectures, please use an external mirror.

For Debian Wheezy, edit your /etc/apt/sources.list file to resemble this:

deb http://mirrors.acm.wpi.edu/debian wheezy main
deb-src http://mirrors.acm.wpi.edu/debian wheezy main

deb http://mirrors.acm.wpi.edu/debian wheezy-updates main
deb-src http://mirrors.acm.wpi.edu/debian wheezy-updates main

For other versions, you can replace wheezy with the codename for your version.

openSUSE

The openSUSE mirror is a partial mirror, but contains the entirety of the Tumbleweed, Leap, and Leap Updates directories.

Currently, there is no way to prioritize the ACM mirror. The openSUSE team uses MirrorBrain to load balance and to determine which mirror is best for your connection. This means that there is no safe way to configure the ACM mirror as your preferred mirror.

Ubuntu

The WPI CS department maintains an Ubuntu mirror.

Notes

The WPI ACM GNU/Linux Debian mirror begins its updates at 4:30, 10:30, 16:30 and 22:30 EST (approximately half an hour after the Debian mirrors update). The Arch Linux mirror begins its update on the 16th minute of every hour.

Our Arch Linux mirror is an official Tier 2 mirror. We sync from http://mirror.us.leaseweb.net/archlinux/.

Note that these mirrors may put you out of sync. Your use of these mirrors means that you agree that the ACM cannot be held accountable for any problems caused by using the service.
